COVID-19 Update

Hockey has resumed competition in ACT with some restrictions but with a full-length season, running from mid-July to the end of October. Click here to view an up-to-date version of the Return-to-Play guidelines and restrictions.

Our clubs are following all the advice set by our governing body, ANU Sport, and the association Hockey ACT. Both of these organisations are in close contact with the ACT Government and AIS Sport about best practice in this uncertain environment.

If you are interested in playing hockey this season please contact our secretaries with your name, a brief description of your playing history and your preferred position.

2020 Grading Day

Hockey is back! Come down to Grading Day on Saturday 22 and 23 February 2020 at Hockey ACT. There is absolutely no cost for these sessions, our coaches use the time to grade you into training squads for the lead up to season start. Grading session times are:

Women’s – Saturday 22 February

  • new to the club – 9am to 10am on Watt field. After this session we will ask you to join either the lower or higher grade session
  • higher grades (1st – 3rd grade) – 10am to 12pm on Watt field.
  • lower grades (4th – 6th grade) – 10am to 12pm on Powell field.

Men’sSunday 23 February

  • all grades – 12:30 to 3:30pm on Carter field

We ask that you aim to be there 30 mins before your grading session to give yourself plenty of time to register for the session and warm up. Registration area will be at the BBQs.

Missed/Can’t make Grading Day?

Send us an email with a bit of info on your playing history, what grade you’d like to play and what position on the field you play, and we’ll add you to a training squad.

2020 Preseason fitness

On Saturdays (beginning 1 Feb), a few of us are recommencing the Mt Ainslie park runs (8am Remembrance Nature Park, ). This event is not run by the club but is a good chance to assess progress on a consistent, albeit hilly, 5km course. If you see us there, say hi!

On Sundays (beginning 2 Feb), there will be a group meeting at ANU’s South oval and going for a slow jog (8:30am start). This pace should be comfortable enough to talk and jog for 30(ish) minutes and will build up slowly each week. This session is not aiming to go hard, but rather to build a big endurance base.

Both running groups will continue each week until the start of the season, and we hope to see you there!

2020 Market Day

ANU Men and Women hockey clubs will have a stall at the upcoming ANU market day, Wednesday 19 February. Come on down and meet members of the club and find out more about playing hockey with us in 2020.
